BALMAIN HOUSE

Balmain House is a remarkable alterations and additions project to a single storey traditional workers cottage. The project comprised extensive rock excavation under the existing house to form a new basement level which was accessible from the rear laneway and garden. The existing portion of the residence was extensively upgraded to include a kids retreat within the existing attic space. A newly constructed three story addition to the rear of the building utilised glulam hardwood timber joists spanning up to 6m with carefully concealed stabilising portal frames to enable a truly open plan living space to be achieved.
