GLADESVILLE CLOCK TOWER

Originally constructed in 1941 Gladesville Clock Tower commemorated Alderman James York Sheridan, who died while in civic office just prior to the completion of the clock tower. It is of historical significance at a local level as an important piece of civic infrastructure from the Inter-War period of the mid-20th century and as a memorial to Alderman Sheridan. The tower comprises of a circular two-tiered reinforced concrete base with a four-tiered corbelled brick masonry clock tower.

STRUCTURE were engaged by the City of Ryde to provide remedial advice for the restoration of the heritage listed tower. Specifically, our work comprised the design of temporary works required to stabilise the tower during the replacement of corroded steel lintels above the access door. We also provided a construction methodology for the work and a specification for the rectification of displaced and cracked brickwork.
