Our team embarks on each and every project in an energetic, collaborative and proactive manner; important on typical building construction projects but critical within the art and entertainment industries. We understand that structural design should not overtake function and aesthetic values and as such we collaborate intensively with artists and the design team to ensure the artistic vision is met whilst not compromising on the structural integrity. Below is a summary of the services that we offer in the art sector.
One of our key practice tenets is to ensure that the structural elements are not at the expense of function and aesthetic merit. As such, we highly value collaboration with architects and artists and strive to add beauty by exposing and integrating the structure into the expressed architectural form of the artwork. This design philosophy is heavily informed by our work in the art sector. Our engineers have extensive experience designing large scale complex public art installations. Often the sculptural form of the art piece is the structure so it is essential that it has aesthetic merit whilst also functioning effectively and efficiently as a structural element. We have worked alongside artists, sculptors, developers and Local Councils to create some truly inspirational works. Our recently completed work, Interloop by Studio Chris Fox at Wynyard Train Station, was awarded the Association of Consulting Structural Engineers Award for Unusual Projects in 2018.
We offer structural design and documentation services for demountable temporary structures that are typically used for the event and construction sectors. Our recent work includes the design of temporary construction site hoardings for the City of Sydney and the certification of exhibition stands and marquees for temporary events.
