THE ORIENT HOTEL REMEDIATION

The Orient Hotel is a heritage-listed pub located at George Street, in The Rocks in the City of Sydney. Originally built from 1843 to 1844 and subsequently extended during multiple periods since then, the building had suffered from concrete cancer attack which was primarily affecting the reinforced concrete decorative cornices of the parapets. The problems initiated due to poor concrete cover/quality and due to continued exposure to salt spray from the adjacent harbour. STRUCTURE worked alongside Heritage NSW to develop a remediation strategy that offered long term durability whilst also being heritage-sensitive.
